This image is a tribute. To one of my all time favourite movies. The Dark Crystal.

I first saw The Dark Crystal when I was about four or five. I was lucky to get it on VHS, though I don’t think that video lasted too long. ;; Like My Little Pony( and later, The Last Unicorn. ;; ) at the time, it was on repeat constantly. ; It’s one of the few movies that I would rent out and watch again and again, as I got older, and all through my teenage years. There was certain darkness, and a certain magic to the story that I always found just… enchanting.

Yes, Jen and Kira, the Ur’Ru and the Skeksis were only puppets but I never forgot the moment Kira died or the scene where the Skeksis turned on and ripped the clothes from the Chamberlain for daring to oppose the Garthim-Master in becoming Emperor. Or Aughra, her freaky eye, or Fizgig with those rows of teeth. @.@; Or the Emperor gulping down the essence of the Pod people. Dark stuff. But gorgeous stuff too. ;.; I fell in love with the Gelflings. Such gorgeous little creatures. ;0;!

I can’t ever hope to match Froud who, later I found was the artist behind the concepts and whose books and art I’ve been collecting ever since, but this is a wee tribute all the same. =O! To the movie and the vision behind the movie. :nods:

Done in a bout of inspiration and over the space of 9 hours or so, so this still qualifies as a quickie. But I like it anyway. =O

Here’s hoping the sequel (out next year! =O ) will not suck.
